ALSO Danube

Project acronym:
ALSO Danube

Project name:
Advanced Logistic Solutions for Danube Waterway

Project duration:
May 2000 - May 2003

Programme:
5. Framework Programme for Research, Technologies and Demonstrations

Partners:
Consortium ALSO Danube consists of 27 partners from 5 European countries, including Slovakia.

Project objectives:
ALSO Danube aimed to promote the use of inland waterway as a key mode of intermodal door-to-door transport chains, from a producer to a consumer.

Project description:
Also Danube was a pilot project aimed to prove that the concept of a common source logistic database (CSL.DB) was a key element to provide multimodal door-to-door transport services with inland navigation as the main haul. Such an innovative link between transport management and traffic management (performed by RIS – River Information Services) could help extensively improve reliability and transparency as well as flexibility of the transportation process for all parties involved.

ALSO DANUBE provided an open virtual network, with potentials for application on a broad European level, linking operative actors and interconnected partly existing systems via common-source logistics databases (CSL, DB), interactively integrated into traffic management systems. Outcomes were demonstrated and evaluated in 4 logistics chains.

Role of KIOS:
KIOS s.r.o. developed a software application called the European Transport Network Application (ETNA) covering the information from all transport modes. Application provides the basic information about the individual operators of the logistic nodes, transport lines services, including information about transshipment facilities and storage possibilities.
