Project name:

Consortium Operational Platform River Information Services

Project duration:
September 2002 – August 2005

Programme:
5. Framework Programme for Research, Technologies and Demonstrations Project objectives: The European standardisation and harmonisation in the field of River Information Services to ensure the interoperability of systems and services.

Project description:
COMPRIS is a pan-European project focusing at the development and implementation of River Information Services (RIS) on the European waterways. Consortium consisted of 44 partners from 11 countries. The coordinator of the project was AVV, research department of the Dutch Ministry of Transport.

COMPRIS deals with the pan-European standardisation and harmonisation of River Information Services (RIS), which is a pre-requisite for full installation of RIS on all navigable waterways. The outcome of COMPRIS will be a pan-European consensus on the RIS architecture, RIS system elements, applications and their interfaces. Therefore, COMPRIS will be an important milestone towards the pan-European installation of RIS. Within the Danube countries, the main objectives are:

  • development of RIS applications for governmental and commercial use and test at the RIS test centre
  • set up and demonstration of a fully operational RIS environment at a test stretch of the Danube in Austria, Slovakia and Hungary and at the Black Sea Canal
  • enhancement of cross border procedures by means of electronic exchange of traffic and transport data
  • the enhancement of the standards for RIS technologies (Inland ECDIS, Inland AIS), the definition of the required steps for set up and operation of RIS in each country.

Role of KIOS:

  • Vessel traffic management and Tracking and Tracing focusing on development of locks planning solution.
  • Value added services from RIS focusing on the logistic needs to obtain data relevant for logistics users by retrieval software and making the link to the FP5 project 'ALSO Danube' by creating the interface towards the CSL.DB.
