IRIS Europe
Project acronym:
IRIS Europe
Project name:
Implementation of River Information Services in Europe
Project duration:
January 2006 – December 2008
Programme:
Project is co-financed by the European Union from the TEN-T Programme budget.
The beneficiaries are ministries of transport of 6 European countries. Slovak beneficiary is Ministry of Transport, Posts and Telecommunications of the Slovak Republic. The project is executed by the Consortium IRIS, consisting of Research Transport Institute (VUD, a.s.) and company KIOS s.r.o.
Project objectives:
The specific objectives of the project are therefore:
- Pilot implementation of the ‘EU RIS Directive’ in Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, the Netherlands, France and Belgium.
- Determine and pilot-implement additional RIS Services, especially on the focus of cross-border operation and environmental Services.
- Harmonisation and Standardisation of RIS-Technology, Applications and Services above the level of the minimum requirements according to the ‘RIS Directive’ by supporting the relevant expert groups of the European RIS Platform with gained knowledge.
- Cross-border co-operation of the national authorities responsible for inland navigation and relevant for RIS according to the ‘RIS Directive’, focusing on cross border Services including the procedures of international exchange of relevant data.
- Close the lacks of RIS pilot infrastructure on the ‘Upper Danube’, especially in Slovakia, by setting up appropriate national as well as international infrastructure segments and ensure sophisticated links between them by defining and implementing relevant interfaces. Consequently additional benefits will be gained by merging the individual Services as well as efficient cross border management will be ensured.
Project description:
Implementation and Harmonisation Study for the deployment of the EU Directive on River Information Services (2005/44/EC).
This study contributes to the stimulation of harmonised investments in infrastructure for River Information Services on the basis of the EU RIS Directive in order to improve safety, efficiency and environmental friendliness on European inland waterways.
Project defines cross-border information services, related with the data exchange and their processes. Newly created RIS services such as exchange of traffic and transport information, hull data exchange and calamity abatement were tested in pilot, mutually linked, installations.
Role of KIOS:
KIOS participated in pilot implementation in various sub-work packages and on the international level in specification of systems and work of the expert groups in relation to the standardisation of technical specifications for river information services.
KIOS participated in or/ developed following:
- Pilot communication infrastructure for system of river information services in Slovakia (SlovRIS). [more]
- Pilot shore infrastructure for the vessel tracking and tracing system as part of the pilot installation of the infrastructure for traffic management. [more]
- Pilot system for electronic reporting consisting of the infrastructure for electronic reporting (in line with the Technical SPecification for Electronic reportting as published by EU and CCNR) and the data exchange among individual coutnries. [more]
- Pilot hull data management system (central vessel register) and the minimal hull data exchange among individual countries. [more]
- Pilot implementation of the calamity abatement service.
